Taken from newspaper article at the time of her death ... came to Sullivan County by ox cart with her parents when she was nine years old. She has been a resident of the Green City community ever since. It has been only during the past few weeks that Mrs. Peters has required glasses to read her daily newspaper. She enjoys good health, her only handicap being poor hearing. There is none of that breakfast in bed business for his centenarian, for she gets her own breakfast and says she can still make a pan of good biscuits. Her memory is excellent, and she recalls how she used to go with her father by ox cart to get the mail at Milan. To have their corn or wheat ground it was necessary to go to Novinger, the trip requiring a day going and a day returning. Mrs. Peters is a member of the Methodist Church. Through the years, her home and her family have occupied her attention to such an extent she had little time for outside activities. Her hobby has been quiltmaking, and the fact she has pieced a quilt for each of her children and grandchildren is fair proof she enjoys her hobby. Her married name was Peters. She and John Wesley Peters appeared on the census of 1880 at Bowman, Sullivan Co, Missouri.

Catherine Sortore was born on 22 October 1783 at Montgomery Twp, Somerset Co, New Jersey, There is most probably two daughters of Jacob and Maria SORTORE named Catherine. The Catherine who was baptized in 1768 would have been much too old to have had children with James WESTERFIELD as their birth dates show. Also according to Georia and Wilbert TUCK there is a record in Kentucky which states the birth date for Catherine as 1783. This big a difference in birth years also leads one to conclude that there were two children of Jacob and Maria of this name. She was the daughter of Jacob Sortore and Maria Dorlandt. Catherine Sortore married James Cozine Westerfield on 13 December 1801 at Mercer Co, Kentucky. Catherine Sortore and James Cozine Westerfield obtained a marriage license on 9 December 1801 bondsman listed is Peter Banta. Catherine Sortore died on 28 June 1842 at Mercer Co, Kentucky, at age 58.
