     Hendrick Sortore was born circa 1721 at Germany. He was the son of Jacob Sortore and Catherine (?). Hendrick Sortore married Dinah Blew, daughter of John Blaw and Margaret (?), circa 1744 at New Jersey. Hendrick Sortore married Rebecca Stout, daughter of John Stout, circa 1755 at New Jersey. Hendrick Sortore died between 3 August 1793 and 5 May 1794 at Somerset Co, New Jersey. He will was proved on 5 May 1794 at New Jersey, Executors named were "Peter Sortore, Hendrick and George Sortore." Surrogate was John Mehelm and Register was Bowes Reed. It states that the probate was sworn at Pluckamin, uncertain where that is..
     Hendrick Sortore was naturalized between 7 May 1730 and 8 July 1731 at Council & General Assembly of New Jersey, Perth Amboy, Middlesex Co, New Jersey. He left a will on 16 January 1787 at New Jersey, witnesses listed were Richard Stout, John Sutphen, and WIlliam Bell. He left a will on 3 August 1793 at Somerset Co, New Jersey, Wife, Rebecca, 3 milch cows, 6 sheep, necessary; household furniture, negro man Dick, and use and privileges of housewhile widow; she supporting sons, Jesse and Elisha, until of age. Son, Peter, house and land where he now lives; also 50 acres near the Rock Mill bought of Thomas Peterson. SOns, Hendrick and George, home plantation, divided between them; also, the farming utensils and grain, divided between them and my widow. Youngest sons, Jesse and Elisha, each £200 (to be paid by sons Hendrick and George in five yearly installments). 13 acres bought of Isaac Runyan near Rock Mill to be sold. Daughters, Mary hunt (wife of Jonathan Hunt) and Amelia Blue (wife of Isaac Blue) each £5. Four daughters, i.e. Catherine Blue (widow), Dinah Tillyer, Mary Hunt, AMelia Blue and grandson William Wart (son of John Wart), the residue. Wife's share of estate to be divided between all of the children after her marriage or decease. Executors--sons, Peter, Hendrick and George Sortore. Witnesses-- Arthur Sutphin Sr., Arthur Sutphin Jr., and Ralph Elbersen.

At an inventory on 25 April 1794 the estates value was £235.12.9; made by Arthur Sutphen Sr. and Roelof Hagaman.

Dinah Blew (F)

     Dinah Blew was born circa 1717 at Jamaica, Long Island, New York. She was the daughter of John Blaw and Margaret (?). Dinah Blew married Hendrick Sortore, son of Jacob Sortore and Catherine (?), circa 1744 at New Jersey. Dinah Blew died circa 1755 at Somerset Co, New Jersey.

     Margaret Sortore was born on 21 March 1746 at Somerset Co, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Hendrick Sortore and Dinah Blew. Margaret Sortore married John Hepburn on 18 December 1771.

Catherine Sortore (F)

     Catherine Sortore was born circa 1748 at Somerset Co, New Jersey. She was the daughter of Hendrick Sortore and Dinah Blew. Catherine Sortore married John Blue, son of Frederick Blaw, circa 1765. Catherine Sortore died before 23 June 1800 at Berkeley Co, Virginia.

Peter Sorter (M)
b. 15 April 1751, d. after 8 November 1832

     Peter Sorter was born on 15 April 1751 at Somerset Co, New Jersey. He was the son of Hendrick Sortore and Dinah Blew. Peter Sorter married Esther Stout, daughter of Joseph Stout, circa 1777. Peter Sorter died after 8 November 1832 this is the date of his application for a military pension so he must have died after this date.
     Peter Sorter performed military service on 7 June 1776 enlisting in the New Jersey Regiment. He served for six weeks with Captain William Barid's company under Col. Quick. He performed military service between 10 September 1776 and 25 May 1777 at Ft. Lee, Bergen Co, New Jersey, he enlisted as a substitute for his brother Henry, serving 8 1/2 months of a nine month enlistment. During this enlistent he served in Captain Park's New Jersey Company and was in engagements at Rocky Hill and Millstone River. He performed military service on 1 July 1777 enlisting for a third time and serving until sometime in 1778. He was at the Battle of Monmouth. When he applied for his pension he was residing at Madison, Columbia Co, Pennsylvania. He resided in 1799 at Columbia Co, Pennsylvania.
